Libraries

Swartland Municipality operates a network of public libraries that do more than just lend books. These libraries serve as inclusive community hubs, offering access to digital resources, newspapers, study materials, and computers.
Each library provides a quiet, well-resourced space for reading, research and learning. In addition to core services, our libraries host a variety of educational programmes, holiday activities, literacy drives, and cultural events aimed at all age groups.
Our goal is to ensure that every resident has access to knowledge, technology, and opportunities for lifelong learning.

  • Application to the library is free.
  • Application forms are available at your nearest library.
  • Adults need to bring an ID-document and a municipal bill. Renters must bring a copy of the landlord’s municipal bill as well as a permission letter from the landlord.
  • Children need their birth certificate, a parent’s ID-document and proof of residence.
  • Remember most libraries have a few days waiting period to load the information onto the computer.

Sondeza Youth Camp

Youth development is a strategic priority for Swartland Municipality. Since its inception in 2004, the Sondeza Youth Leadership Camp has grown from hosting 56 participants to an annual intake of 90 young leaders aged 16 and 17. Held at the Ganzekraal Holiday Resort, this flagship programme draws participants not only from across the West Coast region but also internationally, including countries such as Taiwan, Namibia, Russia, and Germany.
The camp cultivates leadership skills and civic responsibility by immersing participants in practical workshops, team-building exercises, and community engagement sessions. Its core aim is to equip youth with the confidence and skills to drive positive change in their schools and local communities.
